It’s official! Chocolate is now a health food!
Good chocolate is complex food that is really very good for you. The bad reputation chocolate has ended up with is largely due to the over consumption of lower grade chocolate products that are filled with sugar and cheap fats. It is a myth that cocoa, in and of itself, leads to obesity, tooth decay and skin problems.
In fact, new studies are showing that cocoa is higher in antioxidants than green tea and can be beneficial in lowering cholesterol levels, boosting blood flow and reducing hypertension. Cocoa powder is also rich in minerals.
Your favorite vitamin tastes like chocolate!
Harvard doctor labels cocoa a vitamin. A recent study by Norman Hollenberg, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, showed that natural cocoa has high levels of epicatechin. The health benefits of epicatechin, a compound found in cocoa, are so striking that it may rival penicillin and anesthesia in terms of importance to public health. Dr. Hollenberg stated that “epicatechin is so important that it should be considered a vitamin.”
Heart healthy hot cocoa
Cocoa can help reduce cholesterol. A Penn State-led study has found that a diet high in flavonoid-rich cocoa powder and dark chocolate had favorable effects on LDL. ("bad" cholesterol) Dr. Penny Kris-Etherton, of Penn State noted in a recent study that
"The incorporation of dark chocolate and cocoa powder into the diet is one means of effectively increasing antioxidant intake.Furthermore, the inclusion of dark chocolate and cocoa powder in a diet that is rich in other food sources of antioxidants, such as fruit, vegetables, tea and wine, results in a high antioxidant intake and may consequently reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease."

Eating chocolate could help to sharpen up the mind and give a short-term boost to cognitive skills. A study led by Professor Ian Macdonald, professor of metabolic physiology at The University of Nottingham, found that consumption of a cocoa drink rich in flavanols -a key ingredient of dark chocolate- boosts blood flow to key areas of the brain for two to three hours. The results of his MRI studies also suggests that the flavanols found in cocoa could be useful in boosting brain function for people fighting fatigue, sleep deprivation and even the effects of ageing.
Naturally Sweet Hot Chocolate
Cocoa Mojo is made from pure, organic cocoa and sweetened naturally. We use Rapadura -a natural unprocessed sweetener. It is an organic sugarcane from Brazil. Rapadura is made by juicing the sugar cane and allowing the water to evaporate. Then the crystals that are left behind are ground into a sweet natural powder. This and the natural cocoa powder is what makes our Cocoa Mojo so naturally sweet and delicious. You can mix it with milk or powdered milk. We don’t Dutch our Cocoa
Commercial chocolates are “dutched.” This involves soaking the nib or the cocoa mass in potassium or sodium carbonate. Do you want to be drinking cocoa that has been soaked in chemicals first? Most commercial hot chocolates also remove the flavanols like epicatechin from their cocoa because they tend to have a bitter taste. Then they add processed sugar, preservatives and other fillers often reducing the actual cocoa content to less than 15%. So essentially you are just drinking hot sugar with artificial flavors. No wonder chocolate has gotten such a bad rap!

Cocoa Mojo Chocolate recipes
Make your own Healthy Hot Cocoa mix!
2 cups powdered dry milk 2 cups Coconut Milk Powder 3/4 cup Cocoa Mojo cocoa powder, for the best quality cup of cocoa! 1 dash of salt
It's as easy as stir and store!
Use 3- 4 heaping tablespoons per mug of hot water and wisk together! Keep at the office, or for a great and healthy afternoon snack. Great for camping, cold winter sports or anytime you want to have a rich relaxing delicious drink.
Bittersweet Chocolate-Banana Mousse
Ingredients
3/4 c Cocoa Mojo powder; -or less 1/4 c water 5 oz soft silken tofu 1 lg ripe banana 1/2 ts vanilla extract 1 1/2 tb light brown sugar 1/8 ts salt 1/2 ts raspberry vinegar fresh raspberries; optional
Instructions
This rich, intense dessert contains no dairy. Silken tofu creates the creamy texture. Allow time to thoroughly chill the pudding. Optional: just before serving, top each dish with a few raspberries. Melt 1/2 to 3/4 cup Cocoa Mojo cocoa and water in a double boiler. Place the tofu and a handful of banana chunks in a blender and beginto puree. Gradually blend together until the mixture gets a creamy texture to it. Add the vanilla, sugar, salt and vinegar as you go.Pour in the melted chocolate (it's OK if it's still hot), scraping in every last bit. Puree one more time until very smooth and uniform, and taste to adjust the sugar.
Transfer the mousse to individual serving dishes, cover tightly with plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
Chocolate syrup
1/2 c water 1/2 c Cocoa Mojo cocoa powder 1 ts vanilla
Instructions In heavy sauce pan combine water and cocoa.Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until cocoa and sugar is dissolved and is smooth. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and cool. Store in Refridgerater
